A Timeless Kids' Bathroom Renovation with Signature Hardware

When we first moved into our home in March 2019, the kids' bathroom was the very first space I tackled. I gave it an affordable band-aid fix using peel and stick floor tile, an ikea laminate countertop, some paint, and a new light fixture, and worked on it when my son Joe (then 10 weeks old) napped.

Fast forward to 2023, and it's the last major renovation we've undertaken in our beloved house. We teamed up with Signature Hardware for this project, and the results are nothing short of classic (and pretty classy if you ask me!).

The design I planned for this kids' bathroom is intended to juxtapose classic elements with warm and whimsical accents. I chose the Claudia 36” vanity and matching 24” mirror in “antique coffee,” which is a rich, deep brown stain. I set them against Carrara marble countertops, and I found a coordinating polished marble flooring that's not just beautiful, BUT ALSO budget-friendly at only $3.99 per square foot!! Note: Buy a couple of extra boxes—with this being such a small space, we pulled the tiles with darker and cooler gray tones out and were able to return them for some money back. I bought Mapei Pewter for the grout color to pull the deeper grays from the veining in the tile.

You’ll see in the images above that I also had the electrician add a can light over the tub so you can see what you’re doing in there :) Be sure the can light is UL listed and wet-rated (“damp-rated” lights will not cut it in the shower).

The shower features Bedrosians Cloe White zellige-look square tiles to the ceiling, adding a touch of subtle movement to the space, while antique-brass modern-industrial style hardware and plumbing fixtures from Signature Hardware tie the modern and the traditional elements together.

In the midst of this transformation, we decided to retain two key elements from the original space: the bathtub (which was still in great condition) and the board and batten on the wall opposite the vanity. Expanding on this, we introduced more board and batten at a slightly lower height around the sink and toilet wall. To complete the look, we coated all of the board and batten, the new shaker-style door, door trim, and base in Clark and Kensington's "Inspire Awe" paint color.

We had been working on the mudroom, the yard, and a few smaller projects this spring and summer, so luckily, our contractor and friend Alex Stovall of Red Beard’s Home Services agreed to work on this while we took a little break and treated our kids to a visit with Nana and Pop in picturesque Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It was the perfect escape while Alex and Team worked diligently on bringing our bathroom dreams to life.

When we got home, all I needed to do was prime above the board and batten for our Boråstapeter wallpaper, schedule that to be installed while we headed into the mountains for some live music, and then paint the rest of the space after that!

This renovation journey was more than just a makeover; it was a labor of love and a testament to how thoughtful design can transform a space. With Signature Hardware as our partner, we achieved a perfect blend of classic and contemporary elements, creating a kids' bathroom that will stand the test of time.

Here’s the complete list of products we used in this renovation:

As we stand in our children’s newly renovated bathroom today, we can't help but appreciate the journey it took to get here. It's a space that reflects our family's personality, a mix of timeless style and modern convenience. And it's all thanks to the support and collaboration with Signature Hardware, who made our vision a reality.

This bathroom may have been the last major renovation in our home, but it's certainly not the least. It's a nod to the power of design and the joy of transformation, reminding us that every space has the potential to be truly special.
